Online Monitoring – the new service model
general

For many years it has been standard practice to send an engineering team to a customer’s site to resolve problems with a machine. Even if the location is overseas. This can be a time consuming and costly solution.

Recent technological advancements, such as Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT), have introduced a new model for servicing machines in the future and Georg UK is encouraging our customers to take advantage of this new way of working.

The Internet of Things is where objects are embedded with sensors and software to connect and exchange data over the internet. The Industrial Internet of Things is where this is applied to industrial applications such as machinery.

Industry 4.0 has led to new ways of working, changing how machines are monitored and maintained. Many companies adopted new ways of working during the COVID-19 pandemic, with office staff working remotely and engineers offering online support. It highlighted how remote access can help keep a company in business and can be more productive and cost-effective.

Remote monitoring solution

Using a solution from Ewon, an industry leader in remote programming and trouble-shooting of automation equipment, we can now remotely monitor Georg machines for a range of issues. Examples of monitoring points include:

Information collected from the machine is used to predict potential problems before they occur, helping to minimise costly downtime. A machine fitted with sensors allows customers to view various machine statistics remotely and to receive messages if a fault occurs. An engineer can remotely connect to the machine’s computer control system and make any program changes to the machine.

Historic and real-time data is logged, allowing for easier tracking over time of downtime/production on the machine.

Retro-fitting sensors

Whilst new machines can easily be fitted with sensors to motors and critical bearing structures, these sensors can also be retro-fitted to existing Georg machines. Many customers are migrating away from traditional servicing to this new remote monitoring offer as they can see the cost benefits from reducing unplanned downtime and optimising preventative maintenance.

If you are interested in using cutting-edge technology, increasing productivity of your machines and avoiding unpleasant surprises by adopting optimised maintenance planning, contact the Georg team on 01902 715110.
