Heinrich Georg (UK) Ltd is the UK arm of Germany’s leading engineering company, Heinrich Georg GmbH. In the UK, we have grown from our roots in traditional steel and aluminium process equipment into one of the UK’s market leaders of custom-built automated engineering solutions and manufacturers of industry leading programmable Dynamometers and Test Rigs.
We specialise in the design, development and manufacture of innovative special purpose machines for a range of sectors including academia, aerospace, automotive, food, industrial assembly, material processing, rail research, and testing & verification.
Our Project Managers are experienced engineers and technicians delivering projects from individual prototypes to bespoke automated machine solutions. We work closely with our customers to design detailed technical specifications, machinery manufacture and comprehensive testing through to on-site commissioning, with regular progress meetings and communications throughout the project. Our modern facilities in Wolverhampton, West Midlands have been the home of Georg UK since 2006 and includes manufacturing and refurbishment workshops, electronics workshop, tooling workshop, testing facilities, paint facilities, training room, and technical design services delivering 2D and 3D engineering design, prototypes, analysis, feasibility studies, simulations and survey services.
At Georg UK, we provide all our clients with a high quality commissioning and support service. Our team are fully equipped to answer technical queries and provide further training and support. Our engineers also undertake machine safety surveys, machinery repairs and machine inspections.
The Lilliput Shear immortalised in glass
On 20 June 1948, Heinrich Georg took over his father’s workshop and laid the foundation for what is today’s global company. His initial idea was a machine and shears for straightening and cutting iron reinforcements which was in high demand during the reconstruction of post-war Germany. This machine is called the Lilliput Shear. In 1955, Heinrich exhibited at the Hanover Fair which resulted in the machine being manufactured and sold across Europe.
With the introduction of electronics in factories in the 1970s, mechanical functions were replaced with electrical controls. A local machine tool company was acquired paving the way for a highly complex machine tools division.
The company’s global reputation as an innovative and reliable solution provider in advanced mechanical engineering continued to develop. In the 1980s, subsidiaries, sales and services offices were founded in China and the UK, they ventured into North America in the late 1990s and founded a subsidiary in the USA.
With the birth of a new century, Mark Georg, grandson of the company’s founder joined the management and now leads the company. Second generation entrepreneurs, Gerd Georg and Hans-Jurgen Patt are also involved at a senior level in the company. In 2008, Heinrich Georg died age 90 leaving a strong legacy of entrepreneurship and engineering innovation.
The new digital age continues to drive change within the company which has aligned itself technologically and economically with the future. Investment in infrastructure, buildings, machines and personnel means the number of employees worldwide exceeds 500.
Georg remains true to its origins, bringing many innovations to market and laying the foundations for the company’s development from a machine builder to an intelligent process optimiser. Since the Lilliput Shear was first created to today, we remain at the cutting edge of technology.
